The Exploded Street - interactive text

How it works

About the source text
The original text (as seen above when the page opens) is an excerpt from the short story August by Bruno Schulz. This story is part of The Street of Crocodiles and was translated from Polish by Celina Wieniewska in 1963. The Street of Crocodiles is a place ...'of memories and dreams where recollections of Bruno Schulz's uncommon boyhood ... are evoked in a startling blend of the real and the fantastic.'1

About this artwork
The interactive, expanded version of the text was first conceived by Nikki Hafter in February 2020. This text acts as the script for a collective performance, where performers are invited to amend the text and perform their chosen version.

This artwork was made possible with thanks to Will Drew, for his advice on Twine.
